Abstract

ʻAbd al-Ḥusayn Rāshid Maʻārij’s al-Juhūd al-tafsīrīyyah ʻind al-Imām al-Ḥusayn: Dirāsah taḥlīlīyyah [Exegetical Endeavors of Imam al-Ḥusayn: An Analytical Study] (1437AH/2016) examines Imam al-Ḥusayn’s Quranic exegesis, highlighting his connection to the Ahl al-Bayt (a). Spanning five chapters, the book begins with Imam al-Ḥusayn’s life, political struggles, and 29 hadith narrators, including his daughters and successive Imams. Chapter two explores his Quranic scholarship, focusing on virtues, revelation contexts, and exegetical methods: cross-referential exegesis, referencing the Prophet and Imam ʿAlī’s conduct, and linguistic analysis, alongside discussions on mysterious letters, healing, and Quranic stories. Chapter three analyzes doctrinal verses on Divine Unity, prophethood, and imamate, emphasizing infallibility and divine purity. Chapter four addresses fiqh-related aspects, including rituals (prayer, fasting, pilgrimage, khums, jihad) and contracts (commerce, marriage). Chapter five covers moral and educational teachings, such as patience, piety, and abstaining from lies and backbiting. The book lacks a bibliography and index, which could enhance accessibility.
